Approach
Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and I would like to tell you a little about my approach to help you as you research different therapists. I have been a psychotherapist for more than 20 years; I am a well-trained, experienced and educated professional.
However, I believe the most important quality I bring is my deep respect and compassion for the people I work with.
First, at your pace, I will work with you to create a safe, collaborative working relationship. From that foundation, I will get to know you and, together, we will discover what will best serve you to help you move forward and meet your needs and goals. For example, we can work to help you gain self-respect, self-confidence and the increased ability to become the person you want to be.
I have life experience and am comfortable with many approaches to psychotherapy. I use mindfulness, somatic awareness, cognitive behavioral therapy, ACT, and creative arts therapies. And, if going back into your childhood will foster your growth, I am in favor of it.
Therapy can range from short term and solution-focused to longer term, supportive, and exploratory, depending on your needs. You decide.
Please feel free to contact me by phone, text, or email to get a sense if I am the right person for you. I offer complimentary phone or in-person consultations.
Bio
For more than 20 years, I have been working as a psychotherapist, serving children, their families, and adults.
After I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, I started my business providing creative arts programs for children in preschools and elementary schools, as well as adult classes. During this time, I also trained University students and teachers, and worked as a Teaching Artist for the Music Center. I was inspired by watching young students and adults find self-expression, and wanted to provide an opportunity to help them grow. I went on to get my Master’s of Science Degree in Counseling, Family Systems.
I have studied with and been mentored by the leaders in the field of psychotherapy, including Violet Oaklander, Ph.D., and Patricia Van Horn, Ph.D. I have certifications in several treatment options, including Child Parent Psychotherapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, and a licensed clinical counselor. Additionally, I mentor licensed and unlicensed clinicians through workshops, both locally and internationally.
